Humble Brag Music’s first Lady Davina dropped her highly anticipated debut album “Blood on the Door.” The title alone declares a bold declaration that protection and blessings ONLY comes from the Blood of Jesus Christ. Through beautiful melodic singing and fire-laced rap bars, Davina has something to say about the power of the Blood of Christ.

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD

Davina gets right into the heart of the album by taking us to church on the first song; through a beautiful gospel song Let the Words of my Mouth. I’ve always been a person that determines how the rest of an album would sound like through the opening song.

When I heard this song, I knew this album was gonna be different from anything I heard in the NYC Christian Hip-Hop scene! Davina laid the foundation of Christ for the album with the first song alone!

The first few tracks come from the heart of Davina’s relationship with Christ through her proclamation of Jesus being the only way through trials over hip-hop and pop production.

Dirty Secrets featuring Jarred Allstar is about seeking God through the trials of gossip and fakery. The title track Blood on the Door is the thesis of the album: the storms will Passover because Christ is coming. Jesus Walks With Me featuring CHH legend Knine is about inviting Jesus in your circumstances no matter how hard they are.

READ YA BIBLE!

I love listening to Christian music that shows that the artist is in their word. The inspiration of their music not only comes from their own life experiences, but also from the reading of the Bible AND living it out.

A few examples of Davina’s songs that reflect scripture:

  • Love Never Fails (1 Corinthians 13:8)

  • Hope You Got A Bible (2 Timothy 3:16–17)

  • The Wait (Psalm 27:14)

I’ve listened to CHH artists proclaim Christ in their lyrics, but something about the way Davina boldly shares the power of Christ from scripture is refreshing in a generation where most artists use God as a flex in their content. Hope You Got A Bible is a flex of being in the Word. Backed by CHH legend and radio personality Dice Gamble, the ladies rap about the power of God while beating Satan to submission with the Word.

That’s the type of flex I look forward to!

TAKE ME TO CHURCH

Each song, Davina takes us on a different journey from redemption, boldness, grief and trials. Each song changes up from hip-hop to R&P to Pop and back to Hip-hop — each message unique in its own right.

Sometimes the messages will connect like the songs Raised In The Wild and Mary Mary featuring Lyra C. These songs talk about women empowerment in the faith and the struggles they face. These song puts me in the mind of powerful women in the bible.

They are their own sermons whether they are told as personal stories, wise counsel or proclamation that Jesus is supreme.

POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS

Davina CAN rap! She also CAN SANG (a black person’s way of saying “you can sing, sing!!!). The hip-hop tracks are dope, but in my personal opinion, the gospel songs stand out to me the most. I’m a hip-hop head through and through, but gospel music is refreshing to the soul.

Davina has an angelic powerful voice is so powerful that it’ll open up the heaven for earth to see. Whether it’s a worship song, pop, R&P or a chorus, her musical diversity is delivered in excellence and beauty.

Songs like Let The Words of My Mouth, the interludes, A Sparrows Song and Good Work in You stand out to me as “Blood on the Door” anthems. I’ll even include Pray For Me as another anthem song of the album with its transparency and testimonial content.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The First Lady of Humble Brag Music dropped a refreshing album for the Christian community, hip-hop fans and music lovers alike. Going into the album, I wasn’t sure what to expect other than rap songs and singing. It wasn’t just an album, it was an experience.

The diversity between songs included gritty, pop, gospel, R&P, and a hint of drill (Light On Me Remix). The album exceeded my expectations. It’s a great listen from beginning to end.

This diversity isn’t just for show; it perfectly captures the heart of the stories being told. Davina lays her soul bare, offering personal testimonies that are both honest and universally resonant. “Blood on the Door” is a refreshing listen that cuts through the noise.

I pray when you finish listening to this album, you feel a stir in your soul that’ll push you towards God’s presence.
